This will be the final game out West for Philadelphia. And what a kind road trip it was, as the Phillies took five out of six from the Padres and Dodgers, wrestling back the Wild Card lead in the process. But to get the win Thursday, they’ll have to slow down one of baseball’s hottest hitters.

In the pantheon of baseball superstars, Carlos Gonzalez name isn’t anywhere near the top for casual fans, but looking at his numbers, you could make the case he’s the most complete outfielder in baseball. The 24-year-old leads Colorado in almost every major statistical category, and is in the top five in the National League in home runs (30) and RBI (92). His batting average of .330 is the best in the Senior Circuit. While Gonzalez won’t win the National League MVP, you could case that he as deserving of the award as anyone.

The man Philadelphia will send to the mound to try to slow down “Car-Go,” in Thursday’s baseball betting, is none other than righty Joe Blanton. Blanton has struggled to find consistency all year, but seems to be in the midst of his best stretch of 2010. Blanton has won two of his last three starts, and hasn’t allowed more than two earned runs in any of those outings. However, those numbers aren’t consistent with his overall body of work in 2010, as he’s just 6-6 with a 5.15 ERA.

Colorado will send its own righty- Jhoulys Chacin- to the bump Thursday in hopes of slowing down this strong Phillies offense. Chacin has quietly put together a nice year in Colorado, with a 7-9 record and 3.79 ERA. Like

Blanton he is in the midst of one of his best stretches, as the young righty has given up just one earned run in his last 14.2 innings of work, spanning his previous two starts.

With Chacin on the mound, and Gonzalez in the middle of their lineup, there’s only one bet to make Thursday night.  That’s for the Rockies to get a run line victory.

As well as Philadelphia has been playing, their bats haven’t exactly lit the world on fire, as they’ve scored more than five runs in just one of their last six games. Chacin will do a nice job of limiting the Phillies once again, while Car-Go providing the punch in the middle of the lineup.

Also, with this unexpected stop-over after a long road-trip, you’ve got to think the Philadelphia players will just be happy to get this game done, so they can head home for a weekend series against the Brewers.

When it’s comes to Thursday’s baseball betting, the only wager to make is on the Rockies, in an easy run line victory.
